76 candidates invited to apply for permanent residence in a BC PNP tech draw

On November 17, 2020, the British Columbia invited about 76 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

The invitations were sent out by the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) via the Skills Immigration streams and Express Entry BC (EEBC).

The BC PNP Tech Pilot program was used as the platform for inviting candidate that fall under the following categories – Entry level workers, semi skilled workers, skilled workers and international graduates.

For the invited candidates to be eligible for the nomination, they must have a valid job offer in any of the 29 tech occupations. The occupations that are eligible and approved for the BC PNP Tech Pilot include but not limited to the following – Audio and video recording technicians, translators, developers, web designers, civil engineers as well as computer and information systems managers.

The candidates from all categories must attain the pass score of 80 to be considered for the nomination. Applicants will be evaluated and given a pass score based on several factors including – English proficiency, location of employment, work experience and level of education.

For a candidate to be able to apply for the Skills Immigration or EEBC streams, such a person must create a profile on the BC PNP online portal and thereafter register under the website’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).

On approval of the provincial nomination, the candidate can proceed to apply to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence under the BC PNP Pilot. An additional 600 points would be awarded to candidates under the EEBC stream to use towards their Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. These candidates are also assured of an Invitation To Apply (ITA) in any other future Express Entry draw organized by the federal government.

The BC PNP Tech Pilot program operates through existing BC immigration streams and it is designed for international students and IT workers.

Unlike other BC PNP streams that require an offer of permanent employment, the BC PNP Tech Pilot program only requires one year employment duration by the employer. Employments that are above one year would also be considered provided that it is on a full time basis and the offer of employment is from an eligible employer in the province.
