Canada introduces new Express Entry CRS points

Candidates in 186 designated high-wage occupations may receive additional points through qualifying Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer.

Effective November 3, 2026
New CRS points

Points may be available for either qualifying Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer. IRCC uses the route producing the higher score.

186 eligible occupations

The list includes occupations across healthcare, engineering, technology, education, management, construction, skilled trades and other sectors.

LMIA rules are changing

An LMIA will not be required for a qualifying job offer to receive the new Express Entry points, but the offer must still satisfy IRCC requirements.

How the new points work

Three high-wage occupation levels

The applicable category is determined by the Canada-wide median wage for the occupation—not necessarily the individual employee's salary.

1.3× MEDIAN

High-wage occupation level 1

Qualifying job offer50CRS points
Eligible high-wage Canadian experience20additional points
1.5× MEDIAN

High-wage occupation level 2

Qualifying job offer70CRS points
Eligible high-wage Canadian experience40additional points
2× MEDIAN

High-wage occupation level 3

Qualifying job offer100CRS points
Eligible high-wage Canadian experience70additional points

The two point routes are not combined

If a candidate qualifies through both Canadian work experience and a qualifying job offer, IRCC compares the two calculations and uses the one providing the higher Labour Market Integration score.

Important LMIA clarification

Express Entry points and work permits are separate

FOR EXPRESS ENTRY

LMIA not required for the new job-offer points

Beginning November 3, 2026, an LMIA is not required for a qualifying job offer to be assessed for the new CRS points. An IRCC officer must still be satisfied that the offer is genuine and meets the applicable requirements.

DO NOT CONFUSE THIS

Work-permit requirements remain separate

This does not create a general LMIA exemption for hiring a foreign worker or obtaining a work permit. Employers and workers must still follow the applicable work-permit and Temporary Foreign Worker Program rules.

Who may benefit

Candidates who should review their profiles

Candidates with at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in one or more listed high-wage occupations.
Candidates with a qualifying Canadian job offer in one of the 186 designated occupations.
People who meet the requirements of an Express Entry-managed program and have an active profile or can create one.
Candidates whose employment history or job-offer details need updating before the new calculations take effect.
What to do now

Prepare your Express Entry profile carefully

Confirm your NOCMatch the NOC to your actual duties and responsibilities—not only your job title.
Check the occupation listFind your NOC in the applicable 1.3×, 1.5× or 2× wage category.
Review profile detailsVerify your Canadian work history and qualifying job-offer information for completeness and accuracy.
Assess full eligibilityRemember that additional points do not replace the eligibility rules of an Express Entry-managed program.
Common questions

What candidates need to understand

Will everyone in a listed occupation receive additional points?

No. A listed occupation alone is not enough. The candidate must satisfy the requirements for eligible Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer, along with the applicable Express Entry requirements.

Can job-offer points and high-wage experience points be added together?

No. IRCC compares the Canadian-work-experience route with the qualifying-job-offer route and applies the option producing the higher Labour Market Integration score.

Are current Express Entry profiles affected?

IRCC says existing profiles will be recalculated after the changes take effect. Recalculation may take up to two weeks, during which invitation rounds will be paused.

Do these points guarantee an Invitation to Apply?

No. An Invitation to Apply will continue to depend on the type of invitation round, its eligibility requirements and the applicable CRS cut-off.
