Construction, Child Care & Health Care Scores Are Trending Downward

Since targeted BC PNP invitations resumed for selected Construction, Child Care and Health Care occupations, minimum scores have moved lower across several rounds.

Could scores decrease further?

Possibly, but no future BC PNP score can be predicted or guaranteed. Minimum scores depend on the registrations in the pool, provincial priorities, available nomination spaces and the selection criteria used in each invitation round.

Who Should Pay Attention?

If you are working in one of the current priority occupations, or you have an eligible job offer from a B.C. employer in one of these occupations, consider checking whether you meet the requirements to register with the BC PNP.

Important Skilled Worker rule

Under the current BC PNP Skilled Worker stream, the basic two-year skilled work-experience requirement does not have to be in the same occupation as your B.C. job offer.

Your Previous Skilled Experience May Still Qualify

A different skilled occupation

The minimum two-year requirement can be met through work in any skilled occupation classified in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3, subject to the program rules.

Another province in Canada

Eligible skilled experience can have been gained elsewhere in Canada.

Outside Canada

Qualifying skilled work experience may also have been gained internationally and must generally have been obtained within the previous 10 years.

Example

You may have only recently started working in a targeted Construction, Child Care or Health Care occupation in B.C. If you have at least two years of other qualifying skilled experience from Canada or abroad, you may still meet the Skilled Worker stream’s basic work-experience requirement.

Important scoring distinction

The minimum two-year Skilled Worker eligibility requirement is different from the directly related work experience used in BC PNP registration scoring. Your registration score must be calculated separately under the current scoring rules.

Before You Register

01 — Confirm your NOC
Your NOC should be based on your actual job duties, not only the job title.

02 — Check your B.C. job offer
Make sure the occupation, wage, employer and job offer meet the applicable BC PNP requirements.

03 — Review all skilled work experience
Do not overlook qualifying skilled experience from another occupation, province or country.

04 — Calculate your registration score
A recent draw score is useful only after your own BC PNP score has been calculated correctly.

05 — Check the latest targeted occupation rules
Priority lists and invitation criteria can change without notice.
