The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have just announced in a statement that starting from October up to December, Canada will be speeding up and finalizing the processing of about 6,000 spousal sponsorship applications.
The IRCC further stated that in a bid to reduce the delay in the application processing, it has increased its staff strength by 66 %.
The IRCC further revealed that it will be making use of digital technology to ensure that the application process is hastened up. Also, the new shift from paper-based application to computer-based applications will allow the workers to work remotely, thereby reducing the waiting time.
The IRCC stated that new biometric measures will be employed although no specific details were given in respect to how this would be implemented.
According to the IRCC, with the rate at which these applications have been planned to be processed within the month of October and December, there should be successful processing and finalizing of about 49,000 applications.
The IRCC stressed the need for families and loved ones to be together while stating that the COVID-19 pandemic created a huge negative impact on the spousal sponsorship applications.
Marco Mendicino, the immigration minister stated that the pandemic caused a big delay in the spousal application process but reassured the public that the government of Canada will continue to work assiduously to ensure that the needs and concerns of families are fully represented.
